Tues March 23 2010

Princess and Fiesty snuggle while I do chores.
Handy Household Tip. Use a clean empty yogurt container to make big ice cubes for big glasses. The horses came for a drink after their tank was filled.

Tiger Lily

Smoke Bobbie Yes, that is Princess in the dishwasher. Everybody has to be somewhere.
The fly predators are hatching!!! That means they can be spread around and lay their eggs on fly
maggots. When they hatch they eat those nasty flies. Picture a 65 year old lady dancing around singing A Tisket A Tasket while scattering predators. (Hey-we live on a ranch and I don't get out much). The predators are put near fly hatching places and they make their way to where they need to be. Next on the day's agenda was killing mosquito larvae. You need the proper tool. When you go out to catch larvae I suggest you choose a warm sunny day. First, you can see the wiggly things better and second it gives you a good excuse to play in the water. Then you must dress properly. A short sleeved shirt makes more sense than a long-sleeved one unless you like soggy arms. Shorts are optional. Actually, pants are optional, but because we live near the highway I always try to wear some. Use sunscreen of course and if you choose to go out when the mosquitoes are out, use bug spray. You don't want to get bitten while trying to get rid of bitey things. The final touch to your attire is proper head wear. Grace is not sure what that silly thing is. Banjoe and Julian want to know what is going on and if they can help. Julian thinks it's a perfect fit. There are several techniques to scooping. There is the go down and come up quickly one. Or the swirl the water around until they get dizzy one. Or just go for it. Got 'em. Helen is making good progress with Posey. She petted her and is gaining her trust. Longears are different from horses in training. They require LOTS of patience. Thank you, Helen, for taking your time with her. We put Jesse in with Posey and there are two happy critters tonight. Note smoke in the background. I hope they put the fire out before they leave this time.
There are some times, usually the evenings, when I am not sure I have enough energy to do the chores. I clamber on the tractor and set off . Before long time just flows. Fatigue is forgotten and the pure joy of being with the animals takes over. Watching the horses eat, drink, play, sleep becomes the most important thing in the world. It is the greatest blessing to be a part of their world; Thank you to all of you that helps make this possible. Come by and share the joy with us. 530-514-1439 homeatlastsanctuary@gmail.com
