Poe Arrived

Looking out the window this morning this is what I saw- a free-range mule!!!! Callie had decided to nibble on some greens and yellows and whites. The flower garden was irresistible to this sweet little lady.

"Hey, Callie. Can I come, too?"

Could anything be cuter than longears in the garden?

Oh well. The flowers were just about finished anyway.

Jane decided to pose with the other whites.

Poe goat arrived today!!! He was born right after the Poe fire and was named by Cal Fire. His mom Holly was killed by a mountain lion right in their pen. He has been depressed and nervous about staying in his old place. We all thought he might be happier away from bad memories and with some new friends. He's a cute little guy about 10 years old.

He was unsure about his new surroundings for a while, but ate whenever food was offered.

"I like the new guy. Do you?" "Yes. He's had a rough time so be nice to him." "OK, but why are we whispering?" "Because it makes us look cuter."

Poe nestled down in the comfy hay and made himself at home. Welcome Poe. We're glad you're here.

Helen came to work with Navajo. He's a pushy little rascal, but lovable.

He's a good boy. See the blankets on the fence? We're hoping the rain will freshen them a little.

Aaron came to help Jim set the panels in preparation for winter. We have some oldies that must stay in when the weather gets bad.

Good work, guys. We put in Sparkle, Jackson, Juan, Rosie, Lucky, Cricket, Lexi , Grace, Quest, Navajo, Tess and Amira. The others will go in before Sunday's storm. Wild Bill chose to stay in his pen.

When Hugh brought Poe his friend Molly came, too. His wife, Joy, sent us a bag of goodies. We loved the goodies. The cats loved the bag.

Enjoy Fiesty and Patches and THE BAG.

Remember when I told you something exciting was in the planning stage? Well, we're still planning but want to share about it. Home At Last is going to have a thrift shop!!!! We are still looking for the perfect place in Chico. We need a building about 1500 square feet with good parking and heavy traffic. Do any of you know of a place we could rent?
Start saving your gently used items for us. We will have all sorts of items, clothing, books, dishes, whatever, and we will be very competitive. Good prices. We will make money to feed the horses.
Any of you business owners have suggestions for us? What is it you wished you knew when you started? What would have made things easier and better?
We are excited. I hope you are, too.

  1. Hi Donna ~

We tossed the idea around, too. There is a great thrift store in Grass Valley that benefits AnimalSave. They are more than happy to share what they've learned, including color-coded stickers to make sure nothing stays on the floor too long. If you can get away, I highly suggest a visit.

    Best of luck!
