Quincy and Cajun are waiting.
Today's greeters are the 6th grade class from the Children's Community Charter School in Paradise. In Science they have been studying ecology and conservation . They came to Home At Last as a field trip. Their Science teacher Ms. Carr and Mr. Jensen thought it might be a good idea to see how folks live off-grid. The class learned how we live off-grid- how we manage the wind and solar power, about conserving energy and water, recycling, manure management, responsible animal care, the dairy industry, PMU horses, the cost of running a sanctuary and the pure joy of living in the country- manure, mud and all.

There they go.......Oops!
Thannks 6th grade for a great day.
The class learned that animal care is a 24 hour a day job. There are no vacations unless you find some one to take responsibilty for your pets.
They had a hard time understanding (as we all do) animal abuse. How can anyone starve, beat, neglect or otherwise abuse an animal? How can they discard calves, slaughter horses and just not care? How can they move away without providing a home for their cat, dog horse or rabbit?
They learned that we live according to the weather-sun, wind rain- and according to the water. We may have plenty in Winter, but in the Summertime, the horses often consume 2000 gallons of water a day. that means no wasting water on car washes, patio cleaning or other non-essentials.
They learned with 50+ horses there is a lot of manure.
What is so interesting about this old grey pine?
The woodpeckers have filled the tree from top to botton with acorns. All Spring, Summer and Fall you can hear tap, tap, tap. Why did they chose just this tree and none of the others?

After 3 fun filled and, hopefully, educational hours they loaded up-muddy -really muddy.
