Today's greeter is Daphne the barn cat. She's about 10 and loves to be loved. We called her a woodpile cat because she was born in the woodpile when we lived in Magalia. She made the move to Yankee Hill and seems to enjoy barn life. Since we find mice in the tack room, she must believe in peaceful co-existence- not warfare.
Today was dump day. It took us over an hour to load the truck, but now the side of the barn looks great. We're expecting special company tomorrow and wanted the mess cleaned up. There are 3 baling twines on each bale of hay. Multiply that by the 8 bales of hay a day, then by 30 for the month. That's 720 twines a month. They make a real clutter pile. We can't find anyone who recycles them. Any ideas?
The calves are getting really big, but Jim still loves to get their bottles ready for feeding.

Bugs and flies are starting to hatch and birds are flying over, giving Keecha lots of opprtunities to chase shadows. She's living up to her New Year's Resolution.
Farrier Aaron Hamon came out today to ease Brandy's sore foot. She felt so much better that she took a long, relaxing nap in the sun. The mud has been the cause of several abcesses. Everyone is glad to have the sun and heat to dry the goo.
Tory and Braveheart stay out for the day. They wander and eat, then eat some more and wander. However, when it's time to put them in, I call to them, shake the grain bucket and there is a stampede. Sometimes, they race to the barn and wait for me. Other times, they nearly run over the top of me and follow a little too closely.
We have been grateful for the warm weather. Old bones and muscles relax in the heat and the animals are not cranky. More rain is due, and I know we need it, so we'll be happy to have it. It will mean more mud and probably more foot problems, but we are ready.

Helen is a faithful volunteer. She made some good progress with the silly minis today.
The girls love to play hide and seek with Helen. First, they are friendly, then shy, then silly.
Granddaughter Beth needed help with her homework and Princess cat was glad to be of assistance . They had to "cat"alogue some words.
