4th of July

What a great 4th of July!!! It started with work, of course. Rico is getting his sore foot soaked. He lost some weight and is now living with the calves to be treated and fed lots.
Brian makes sure his foot stays in the soaking bucket.

Rico says Happy Birthday, America!!!!
Brian spent a lot of time grooming him. What a love horse.

The day was beautiful and quite warm.

Jim, Banjoe and Julian spend a few quiet moments together.

The first volunteers arrived about 10 AM and started grooming. Thanks, Jenny, Sue and Laura. Then Tina, Leah and Carly arrived. They made their own grooming bucket. Thanks, girls.

Once these girls start to work it's hard to stop them.

Horses came into the barn to greet them.

Hey. Don't leave me. I want more.
Sweetie Pie is always ready for attention.
Callie, Tess and Quest ask for attention, too.
Who's next?
Leeso says, "Me. Me."

Of course Smokey and Jake are waiting their turn. Keecha celebrates in the shade.

These girls take their chores seriously whether it's swatting flies or catching frogs. (Or falling in the pond).
Get those pesky bugs. How many now?

Got him!! Then the guests began to arrive and we ate.

And ate.

And ate until the last guest left at midnight.

And ate some more.

We had a lot of food.

It was the best 4th of July ever. Thanks everyone. Thank you Laura and Nancy for your generous donations.
Now back to horsework.
