Lucky, Dobbin and Smokey "Blicks"

These two happy faces greeted me this morning. Lucky has a little cough, but is so much better. He sure put up a fight last night. It took three men and a lot of sedatives to get this little fellow treated. He had a runny nose indicating an infection, but also choked on something. No more treats for the animals at Home At Last. Cricket is glad her friend is feeling better. The barn was filled with friends checking on Lucky. Pico and Jake may challenge the little guy, but they are glad he is OK.

Quest was watching, too.

Tucker, Sweetie Pie and Smoke peeked in.

What are Leeso, Gracie and Lexi watching? More on that later.

Callie knows how it feels to hurt. She watched carefully last night at the goings-on.

This is what Leeso and friends saw.
I thought I'd have a love story to tell you about. Last night when Dr D came it was dark and we had to use his truck's headlights to treat Lucky. Dobbin came down to the lower barn to visit and saw Jenny donkey. His ears went up and he walked up to her. Then he wandered in and out of the barn trying to get closer to her. We decided that we'd let Jenny and Jessie out this morning to be with the other two donkeys.
While rounding up the girls this morning Dobbin stood by the fence singing to them. Now when Jonathan sings he sounds like a bagpipe, but Dobbin sounds like a freight train's brakes screeching on metal.
Jenny took exception to his interest. She flattened her ears back and bared her teeth at him. It was then we noticed that Dobbin's interest was NOT platonic. The girls stayed in and as you can see Dobbin is trying to talk Jessie into joining him on the other side of the fence. He trotted up and down the fence line a good part of the day. I think he finally gave up.

Laura and Sue came today and Pico decided it was his turn for attention.
Laura gave Charles and Belle a good grooming while Pico posed for pictures every chance he got.

What a beautiful pair.

Relax Pico. Don't get too excited.

Sue and Pico share a secret. It was about the calves. They really aren't horse getters.

Smokey had the "blicks" today. He wasn't sick, but he just didn't feel good. He is in the barn getting some extra attention. Seems to be OK.
Thank you Amalie, Joanna and Lin for your donations.
