The computer and camera still refuse to talk to one another. Don't you hate when family members do that? Friend Ron says, "Upload the disc. You do know where the disc is, don't you?" Oh, he knows me too well. The disc is in a safe place, of course. Maybe Saturday, it will get fixed. Until then, you will have to use your imagination.
Three wonderful donations have come in. Thank you Lise and Lorie. Thank you Elaine, for the 2 big boxes of goodies. See Face Book for details.
It was a stay at home day, doing the chores that needed to be done. Jim worked on the tractor's battery cable. When going out to feed, the tractor sometimes started and sometimes not. It was OK if Jim were nearby, but it was a long hike from the lower well to get him if the tractor quit down there. My usually sunny disposition quickly clouds over when equipment doesn't work. Especially, when the hammering and bashing doesn't fix things. The new cable is supposed to restore my faith in all thing mechanical.
I did the mundane chores of feeding, watering and stall mucking. Of course, that means loves and pets to all who are in the barn or out roaming in the yard.
Lexi's neck still looks gross, but she is healing nicely. She's eating lots and is enjoying life again. Her abscess was so large, it must have really hurt. She was so good and patient while she was being treated.
Chardonnay, Sunny and Aurora ate breakfast in the barn and then spent the day out in the big turnout. At dinnertime they came back to the barn , asked to be allowed in for dinner. Chardonnay is about 30, and Sunny and Aurora are in their teens. They are very sweet girls. They are healing nicely, too.
Babe and Lacey were in, also. I thought maybe, I'd keep them in a bit to try to put some weight on Babe, but Jake had other plans. He opened their gate and let them out. Then he, Tucker and Quincy came in to nibble on their leftovers. They were politely asked to leave and the gate closed behind them and the latch tied .
Levi II got moved to a clean stall and Rosie went out in the turnout for about 10 minutes then came back in. She's timid and doesn't get to eat if there are others around. She's an old girl and deserves to eat in peace.
Bobbie's fetlock is better. She and Lexi get antibiotics morning and night.
Lucky is getting more and more feisty. He doesn't accept the fact that he is now a gelding. We can't let him out with the big herd because he'd fight with everyone.
Little Cricket just keeps out of his way. We've tried separating them, but she really misses him.
Quest stays in, too. Maybe when the days are warm again he'll want to go out, but for now he's happy to be in with a stall of his own.
Juan, Charles and Belle are content with their places, too, though I think Juan will enjoy some freedom when he gets his special shoe off.
Sparkle comes out of the barn in the morning to spend his days with Gracie, Jonathan, Dobbin, Callie and Baby Jane. They are free to roam around the yard. They eat all day, snooze in the sun and follow us if they think we have grain. Sometimes we find them in the breezeway on their way to the back deck. Not a good place for critters of their size. Sparkle goes into the upper barn at night to keep warm. He is so proud now and can really move out if he feels like it.
The rest of the herd is doing well. They seem to like the cooler weather and frisk about all the time. Levi I and old Cash were even rearing up at one another over the fence. They looked so pretty and lively.
Granddaughter Beth flies in tomorrow to celebrate her 13th birthday. Will try to have celebration pictures .
Thanks again to everyone who is a Home At Last angel. You are a blessing to the herd.
