My new rain hat (thank you Helen) and new muck boots were waiting for their first outing. Patches approved.
Volunteer Jesse talked with Jim and Brian about fixing things. Jesse has offered to fix some of our broken "stuff."
Jesse, his daughter Mallory and Emily mucked out stalls in the pouring rain. We are so lucky to have such hard working volunteers.
Monday was vet day. Lexi had her abscess opened and packed. She is so brave. She may have a systemic infection that will require an antibiotic regime for a while.
What do Rico and Pedro see?
Why are Keecha and Love in their kennel?
It's because Sunshine and Nestor came to see the vet. They belong to Helen and Ron. Sunshine has a hoof issue. Actually she has a no hoof issue, but is doing very well. She got a vaccination, too.
Helen and Nestor snuggle before Nestor's check-up. Nestor is a BIG boy but is very sweet. He had acne.
Sunshine and Nestor enjoy a romp after their shots. Then they headed home.
And the dogs got their freedom.
Next was Sparkle's turn. He needed some dental work. We want him to have every advantage for gaining weight. Kelly and Sparkle visit while the sedation takes effect.
Stick out your tongue and say "Aah." It took a lot of sedative to get Sparkle ready for his floating. He spit out the speculum twice.
Almost done. You can see he is still thin, but is putting on weight steadily- at least 35 pounds since the last visit. He roams freely during the day, then goes into the barn at night.
The warm sun made all the dogs sleepy.
Tuesday and Wednesday slipped by without much going on, and then on Thursday we went to the Sacramento Airport to get granddaughter Beth. Things kept busy from morning to night.
The concrete underwent beautification.
Beth took the camera and had a beautiful bird pay a visit. Where ever she went, there was the bird.
Beth, bird. Bird, Beth.
The goats showed off their house climbing skills.
On Friday Beth's mom and family came to dinner.
Jade made a delicious Texas sheet cake. We couldn't stop nibbling on it. Emily and Beth watch as Jade lights the 13 candles that spell out Happy Birthday.
On Saturday another party was held for Beth with more friends and family coming for lunch. Dale, Beth and Grandma Sue enjoy some lasagna. It was quite a celebration for the entry into teen-ager hood.
A really bad rendition of Happy Birthday was sung. No harmony here.
Helen made this beautiful and delicious cake. Not a bite was left. Happy 13th Birthday, Beth.
There are many folks to thank for their generous donations. Thank you, Lise, Lori, Lloyd, Lin and Anonymous.

The three little pigs still need a home, as does Red a wonderful gelding who needs to be a pasture mate in a loving home.
Please, call Nancy at 530- 534-3079
Nancy rescues critters who need to be saved and does so much for the critters. Can you help her find homes for these animals?
Beth is back in Colorado and the cats are looking for her.
