Yesterday and Today

Yesterday we moved all the barned horses out. Chance and Harmony were so very glad to be out. Chance walked slowly for a moment then he and Harmony cut loose.

They galloped and slid and had a great time.

Today when we went out Levi I had gotten into their turn out and really kicked Chance. The poor boy has scuffs and scrapes all over. Jim once again was fixing fences while I medicated Chance's sores. Harmony stayed out of it and just looked beautiful. As everyone who owns horses knows, fences always have to be repaired. If it's fixed now it won't be for long.

When Chance and Harmony started racing around so did Levi I and Daisy. It is so much fun to watch blind Daisy race toward a tree and then swerve at the last moment. She has mind mapped her whole turnout and knows where every tree, limb and rock is.

We, also, let Gracie and Lexi out yesterday. They wandered around enjoying their freedom. Gracie now chases Jonathan and Baby Jane from their grain. I try to hide it all over, but she can find it any where. She is glad to be out of the dungeon.

Lexi found the calves to be good dining partners.

Jackson spends most of his days just dozing. He nibbles here and there and enjoys a cool drink, but he doesn't move around too much.

Sunny, Chardonnay and Aurora are recovering from their fence encounter. They'll stay in until the vet checks them again. They seem to enjoy the quiet time in the barn.

Levi II did not like Lexi being out. He paced back and forth until we began to worry about his sore legs. We brought Lexi in and put her next to him. She lays her ears back but is willing to share the hay through the fence. I think tomorrow I'll try letting them be together in one area. I'll stick around in case some one gets too cranky. He is so at home here. He likes having the Arabs on one side and Lexi on the other.

Juan loves Rosie. He worries when he can't see her. They are side by side now and after he gets his heavy shoe off we'll try them together. Rosie is timid, but can be crabby. Oh, the personalities these horses have. Anyone who thinks all horses are alike doesn't know horses.

Who is that way down in the drainage area?

It's beautiful Marnie. Tonight he was pals with Tess and Amira. They made a cuddly threesome until dinner was served. Then it was every horse for him or herself.
Seeing the three of them together made me think of the horses who have been friends and partners for quite a while.
There are Jake & Smokey, Jenny & Jessie (and now Dobbin), Lacey & Babe, Frankie & Moon Dancer, Levi I & Daisy, Maggie B, Sugar & Posey, Tucker & Sweetie Pie, Bonita, Pearl & Jet, Breeze Bay, Cash & Jesse, Charles & Belle, Aurora, Chardonnay & Sunny, Star, Dunny &Dancing Drum, and Lucky & Cricket .

There are others who are loners and those who are every one's friend -maybe like some folks you know.
Having the horses, donkeys, mules, dogs, cats, goats, calves, chickens and guineas make us glad to be alive.
Having the dogs have a Close Encounter of the Worst Kind with the skunk family (as they did last night) makes us hold our breath and wish we couldn't smell as well as we can.
Having cool days and cooler nights makes us glad summer is over.
Being tucked in the house when it's dark with a good book and a cup of cocoa let's us know Life Is Good.
