When Charles came to Home At Last Belle became his eyes. They were inseparable . They were side by side most every minute. If Charles lost contact with her he woould call to her and circle around until he found her.
This past week we put Juan in with them in hopes Charles would become attached to him, too. They were a happy threesome. We had hopes that Charles could live without his Belle.
Last night Belle lay down. I think she was hoping that Charles and Juan could make it. Belle couldn't get up again, and try as he might Juan could not soothe Charles' grief. Dr Darling came to put them down and Juan would not leave Charles' side until he was gone. We were all crying at the love and tenderness Juan showed to Charles. It was amazing to watch.
No one can tell me that animals do not have souls. They love, and care for and mourn just like people. They have great lessons to teach us. When Juan was sure that Charles had his wings he gave him one last sniff then went to find some grass. There is a lesson there, too, for us. Love.
Be Attentive. Do What You Can For Others. Mourn. Say Good Bye. Move On.
Belle and Charles you were wonderful, beloved friends. We will miss you.
Juan you still have a mission. We'll have to see what it is.
