Larry. Goats and Lower Well

Larry from Wilson's Worms of Concow came today to remove the piles and piles of muck and manure. He lets the piles compost for a year then gives the tasty concoction to his wiggly friends. It works well for both of us. He gets the good stuff and we get it taken away. Thanks, Larry. See you soon, as there is always more "good stuff."

This was the old winter goat yard. Lots of hay, a nice house with rooftop climbing facilities, but not much room to play.
This is part of the new yard.

Gray says a great big thank you .

Trees are good for eating and climbing.

I can go higher. Ooops, maybe not.

Jim and Mr S have a visit. It's been almost a year since we brought Mr. S and his three friends home. They were only a day old and had been thrown away because they were boys. The dairy industry had no use for them. All four lived in the living room in a playpen. Granddaughter Beth, Jim and I bottle fed them. 3 of the babies died in our arms, but at least they were well fed, warm and loved.
We got two goats from friend Su who had also bottle fed her babies, but not in the house. All three boys have big holes in their ears where the tags had been stapled in. Just this winter Poe came to live with us because his mother had been killed by a mountain lion. Poe is older. He was born during the Poe fire and was named by Cal Fire.

Isn't he a cute boy?

Poe enjoys his spot in the sun. He's on the bridge between his old yard and his new one.

We went to the lower well to check on the well and the watering tank.
It is so peaceful down here.

Bobbie and Navajo got drinks while the stock tank was filling.

Smokey and Jake nibble on some grass. Not much grows here because of all the nibbling.

This is most people's favorite place on the ranch. There are lots of crystals here and lots of quiet.

Every direction has a wonderful view.

The moss rocks look like miniature mountains.

This part of the turn out goes all the way up to the lower barn. There is room for galloping and rumpusing

Keecha plays hide and seek in the poison oak.

This is truly a sanctuary.
