She really doesn't much care about people- not afraid, just aloof, but the boys find her fascinating. Sometimes, even Jesse and Marnie can be found within her social circle.
Tess, in the foreground, is slowing putting on her lost weight. The strangles were very hard on her and at 30 it's going to take time to build her back to her original weight. She eats all day long. Levi II is in the background with Skittles and Stuart. They are enjoying the warm sunny days.
Marnie is still shiny. He never got the fuzz look like everyone else, but he stays plenty warm. His girls are Tess and Amira . They make a striking threesome. He loves his freedom.
Jesse had rubbed his backside bare, but worm meds and Vetricyn are helping to heal the bare spot. He is a loner, but enjoys being with the herd. He's over 30, an Anglo-Arabian lesson horse. He is a gentleman when haltered, but can be a rascal when free.
Lacey can usually be found near Babe, but today she was between Quest and Levi II. She looked like a large cheese wedge between to slices of pumpernickel bread. A Lacey sandwich! She is one hefty Haflinger.
Quest has a great personality. Years ago when we got him he had been a string horse on a ranch and had not been loved as an individual being. He was with us for several months before he realized he was a beloved pet. We watched it happen.
One evening at feeding time he stomped his foot and told us where to put his food. We put it in the spot. Then he moved away and stomped again. We moved the food. This happened quite a few times. It was as if he was asking, Do I really matter? Do you care what I want?
His whole manner changed and he relaxed completely around us after that.
Oh, yes, he has a temper, but he is not mean. He hates to be awakened from a nap, especially if he is stretched out in the sun fast asleep. Twice Jim has been worried because he sleeps so hard and so long that he made him get up. Quest was so mad at Jim that for several days after each awakening Quest would turn his back on Jim and ignore him.
Sparkle and Rosie are two of Home At Last's more dramatic success stories. We are so glad these wonderful horses have come to live here and that we get to share in their lives.
The donkeys and mules have been crowding the gates as I go in and out with the tractor. We have to bribe them a little to stay back.
Jonathan has eaten and says it's time for a siesta. Good night, Jonathan.
Spent a couple of hours at the Thrift Shop today. Thank you, Anna, Cheri and Jerry for your time and your donations.
There is a lot of room and lots more donations would be welcome. 611 Walnut Chico between 11:30 and 4.
They still need a washing machine, tables and shelving.
Helen and Ron are working hard to get everything ready for the 15th. Can anyone stop by for a couple of hours and lend a hand?
