Pilgrim came to Home At Last about 2 years ago. He had been a racing Quarter Horse with several injuries. He was a funny boy who liked to be patted but not scratched. He had a cribbing habit, probably from being kept in a stall for so long.
Pilgrim had two loves in his life at Home At Last- both Thoroughbreds- both lovely ladies- LilliBelle and Dancing Drum
This morning and afternoon he was eating seemingly fine. Then he went down. Colic we thought, but he staggered when he walked and could not stay standing.
Dr. Darling came out and said it was something more catastrophic than colic and he was dying. We had him put down quickly to end his suffering. Of course, we all cried and gave him a loving send-off.
Pilgrim was about 18 and had two peaceful, happy and loving years with us. He was a good boy. Sunday he was groomed by one of our volunteers and for the first time he seemed to like it.
Good-bye, Pilgrim, we'll see you at the Rainbow Bridge.
