Life Is What Happens...

The welcomed rain came today with the not so welcomed wind. It was cold and dreary and a great day to spend inside.
Our volunteer and friend Jenny came by with a pizza. Then Beth noticed that Grace had froth coming out her mouth and nose. Oh no! Choke. A call to the vet and he was here in a half an hour. It took several tubings to get the obstruction to move. Poor little girl had quite a nosebleed.
She had been sedated so Dr. Darling floated her teeth while he could. She had some long hooks on her teeth. She should be able to chew much better now.
Against her will we put her in the barn so we can keep an eye on her. She was eating softened food when I checked on her. She seems to be fine now.
Once we asked a vet if most animals died in the Winter and she said that they seem to get through the Winter then die in the Spring.
It seems like we have lots of accidents and tragedies, but when you think of the number of animals we have, the difficulties they have faced before they came to us, and the very nature of horses we are really fortunate. Our vet assures us that we are a safe and responsible sanctuary.
As the old saying goes Life is what happens when you have other plans.
