Some Sounds of the Sanctuary

As soon as we arise we hear the sounds. When the calves see us, the mooing begins. Then Jonathan takes several deep breaths- Jim says he sounds like a bagpipe warming up- and does a foghorn bray. That usually gets Molly mule, the minimule and the hinnies started. Soon Jenny and Jessie donks add their voices. The dogs don't want to be left out so they howl with the chorus. We haven't even gone outside yet. The tractor adds its own music which start the guineas and banties going.
Dancer's soft nicker is overpowered by Breeze Bay's insistent call. The large herd in front is not too vocal. They are more intent on pushing each other around. There are squeals, thumps and cantering hooves. Maggie B can see us across the field and she lets out a blood curling bray.
The chugging tractor makes everyone happy. The silence when the battery cables slip is not good, but soon we are on our way again, rumbling along.
The barn cats meyowl if I am too slow in filling their dish, but purr so nicely when they are eating. Of course, the goats need attention, too, and are not shy about their MAAAAs.
A great sound is girl talk.
We have people stop just to listen to the munching of hay. One fella stops regularly because it makes him feel peaceful. He says he doesn't know anything about horses, but he sure likes the way they sound. Anyone with horses knows that's the best sound in the world.
Jonathan and Tawny share a meal and the sound of friendship is beautiful.
In the evening the soft song of a singing girl and the chirping of frogs lulls us to sleep.

There are so many sounds that make us happy- the seasonal creeks bubbling along, the birds chirping, the windmill whirring. Please, come and share with us the sights and sounds of the sanctuary.
