Friends Part 2

Jenny and Jessie became friends as soon as they met. Jenny had come to Home At Last about 2 years before Jessie came. Jenny and Quincy had been friends- both coming from Sunshine Sanctuary in Los Molinos. As soon as Jessie was out into the corral with Jenny they touched noses and bonded. Seldom do you see one without the other. They harmonize beautifully for their meals. Both girls have been abused and are shy around people, although Jenny can be petted.
Jake has many friends. Here he is with Smokey with Lady Bug mule in the back. Jake and Smokey have been friends since they met about 5 years. Jake likes to eat with lots of different horses, but Smokey and Pico are his best friends. Way in the back you can see Aurora, Chardonnay, and Sunny. They have bonded and are spending the summer in Margaret's lush pasture across the road.Pico is especially close to Jake, though he eats with others. He and Jake are the dominate geldings and usually go where ever they want. When they stand in a stall together it just about fills the stall.
Believe it or not, little Lady Bug mule eats with anyone, too. She just marches up and starts munching. If someone puts its ears back to Lady Bug, she shows her much longer ears and just stays put. She is gentle but firm in holding her own. Jake and Smoke are another good pair. Smoke and Smokey are good friends, too. Smoke doesn't like a lot of horses so it is special that he has his good friends.

Frankie and Moon Dancer becames friends within minutes of meeting each other. He can't stand being without her. He is going to have surgery on Wed. and Moon Dancer will be right there with him.
Maggie B, Sugar and Posey are the three muskateers. They seldom are apart from one another. They have been badly mistreated by people and do not want anyone touching them. Maggie B and Sugar had been abandoned, then abused and in the auction ring Posey had a full size man riding her, hitting her in the face with a rope to make her spin. Banjoe and Julian are good friends and Rico is tolerated by them while he gets his medication. He tolerates them, too, but I wouldn't call them friends. Gracie likes to be left alone. She does follow Jonathan around if she thinks there might be a treat. We will be taking Grace to the Patrick Ranch Threshing Bee in Durham next Sat and Sun. Stop by our booth and say Hi.
The Threshing Bee is great fun with lots to do and see. The big draft horses are working, there is delicious food, good music, art and goodies to buy. See you there.

A huge thank you to Renata and daughter Jane for all the supplies they donated. We will make good use of them.
Thank you to Savahanna, the CSU intern, for her hard work.
Thank you to Larry of Wilson's Worms for taking away our manure. His worms make the best worm tea, about 1000 gallons a week. The tea has natural organic nutrients and is used by certified organic gardeners. The tea is great for plants. Give Larry a call if your garden or house plants need a boost. 530-538-8242.
