Harmony definately does not want other horses near her. She'll chase anyone if she thinks she can get away with it. Sometimes she chases horses from one pile of hay to another for 10 or 15 minutes until she gets tired of the game. She's beautifully trained and is fun to watch. She does not live up to her name. Jim says we should call her Miss Harmony.
Jesse and Cash were loners before they came together. Now they are a happy threesome with Breeze Bay. They call to one another if they are separated. They often eat nose to nose . Cash is an off the track Thoroughbred and did not know what it was like to live outside a stall. At first, all he wanted to do is stand inside. Now he loves the outside. Breeze was a guide for blind Happy, but when Happy died Breeze would not be another horse's guide. She kicked Daisy and said, "I've done my part." Jesse seems to enjoy everyone and is glad to have his own small herd. When he was in the big herd, he was run off his food. Now he's at peace with his friends. He was a lesson horse.
Tess and Amira came together from NorCal Equine Rescue but they were not together there. Once they came to Home At Last they became a bonded pair. When Helen is training Amira, Tess has to be near the round ring. We tried to keep Tess in the barn, but she became so agitated that we had to let her out. She eats grass while Amira works, but stays close so she can see Amira.
Dancing Drum is the mane mare in the small herd with Star and Dunny. Pilgrim bossed her, but when he died and the other two were put in with her she became dominate. She's not hostile, just The Boss.
Star, Dunny and Dancer often eat together, stand together and have elderly wild rumpuses. Dunny is the youngster and often gets them going. It is so much fun to see them rear, buck and run. They do not want to be separated. Thank you for your response to our fly mask need. We could still use a few more.
Thank you to Kathryn L., Lori H. and Mary R. for you donations. Your generosity will help feed the horses.
