A Quiet Day

The four oldies- Jim calls them The Boys of Summer (with Bobbie, too)- are near the front so we can watch them.
Tory, Braveheart and Tawny wait patiently for the food. Belle and Charles in the background are a little more noisy in asking to eat.
This is one of my views when I feed. Who could ask for anything more beautiful ? There are happy horses of every kind. Never did we think we would have so many wonderful horses. Everywhere you look there are horses. Jim built our house so that horses are visible from every window.

Smokey's color is one we haven't talked about. He is a dark chocolate color with dapples and a flaxen mane and tail. It is a favorite color for Rocky Mountain Horses. Smokey had foundered twice when we got him and almost lost his hooves. Due to farrier Aaron Hamon's excellent care he is almost healed. He is one of the few horses who have shoes at Home At Last. Only horses who need orthopedic shoes have them. Everyone else is barefoot.

Moon Dancer is enjoying life at the sanctuary. She has a fly mask to keep the pesky flies out of her eyes. She's eating well and loves her Frankie. They are inseparable. They bonded within two days. He prances and she trots to keep up with him. She likes to rest under the tree and he is right there with her.

Smoke is my idea of an ideal Quarter Horse- he's a big barrel with 4 legs. He's registered, but was at the auction yard, waiting for the killer buyers to get him.
We call Grace our yard princess. She is so delicate and so self assured. She's a good runner awayer, too. If she doesn't want to be caught it takes skill and sneakiness to get her. What a doll!
Rico's abcess is still bothering him. He's on meds and Aaron will come tomorrow to open the abcess again and Dr Darling will be here soon to check on him. Meanwhile he and the calves will have to tolerate one another.
Larry was here again to take more manure and straw. Thanks , Larry. What a difference that makes.
Thank you, Carolene, for your donation.
Quiet days are so nice. I even turn off the tractor as I feed so the quiet can be heard.
