58

When you awaken each morning who knows what's going to happen. Jim and I got kind of grumpy (hot, sticky weather maybe?) and decided that's not how we wanted to spend the only Thursday we have this week. Went to lunch with friends and Board members Dan and Jean and had a great time.
Shortly after we got home a trailer pulled in. Who could it be? I bet you guessed.
Yep. Our friends from NorCal with three wonderful gifts for us.

If you have been following NorCal's blog you will remember Don Juan (maybe he's due for a name change) with a turned over hoof. He's going to join our herd. He is soooo beautiful.

You will also remember Lucky who was just geld. Tawnee posed with him before unloading. He is one gorgeous boy and he knows it.

Then there is this wonderful black pony mare who had been badly abused. Perhaps she had been used as a horse who was roped and drug along. She is terrified. She hasn't told us her name yet, but I'm calling her Cricket for now. No one should be nameless.

Tucker made sure the new family members were properly greeted.

Tawnee, April and Jim had a good talk about the new critters. The vet will be here tomorrow and will check out everyone. Cricket has an udder that looks swollen. Tawnee had to say Hi to the goats she had rescued last winter. They said their thanks by getting nice and fat.
Meanwhile in the barn Lucky and Cricket continued to make friends.

Tucker couldn't believe there was someone almost the same color as he is.

Here's a close-up of the poor fellow's foot. It is completely turned over and he walks on the top of it. Jim and farrier Aaron have already been discussing how to help him.

Leeso came to say Hi.
Pico is relaxed here, but he seemed to feel threatened by Lucky.

Lady Bug was glad we added another mule. She thinks we should call the Sanctuary Longears Acres.

Cricket runs whenever any one come close. Poor little girl. I'd like to rope and drag whomever did that to her. It hurts to see an animal so distrustful of people.

Look at this lovely mane.

They seem to be settling in nicely, as long as we stay away.

Here are two more pictures of the hoof.

My hope and prayer is that Cricket will come to love and trust again.

Don Juan is a beautiful boy. He seemed to accept Calli and Molly as stable mates and they accepted him. Who wouldn't?
Pico and Lucky have a slight grudge match over who is the most beautiful.
Stand tall, little friend. You and your travel mates are Home At Last.

Thank you Sequoia, Diane and Naomi for your donations. You are angels to the horses. You make it possible for us to take care of these magnificent animals.
