Animals first. At breakfast this morning Cricket ate grain from my hand!! She didn't run and when Jim offered her some she ate from his hand. What a big step in trust that is for her. Then tonight when we were getting ready to move horses, she came up to me, put out her nose and touched my hand. Oh, little Cricket. maybe you can learn to trust people again. Maybe the fear will go away.
The second big animal event is that the critical 72 hours after Frankie's surgery has passed and he is doing so well. His incision is healing, his appetite is good and his spirits are high. In fact, we moved him from the hospital and recovery stall and let him out to where Star and his herd had been.

had a romp. Both galloped around, slid to stops and took off again.
Moon Dancer is watching the goats watch us.
Dunny, Star and Dancing Drum were moved to a different turnout. The land is rocky, but there is a lot of shade and they seemed to enjoy a new view point.

We moved Chance and Harmony to the turn out where Frankie and Moon Dancer had been. They needed more room.
Levi and Daisy put on a show for their new neighbors. In that big cloud of dust is Levi.
Levi and Daisy raced around bucking and kicking. It's really something to see a blind horse running full speed, swerving around trees and rocks. Daisy has mind mapped her turnout and nothing stops her.
Chance and Harmony look at their new space.
Come on, says Levi. Let's run some more.
OK. Off they go. They romped for about 15 minutes, rested, then romped some more.

Go, Daisy, go.
Levi has calf knees and was going to slaughter because he was unrideable and deemed "useless." I don't think he knows or cares what others think. He just goes for it.
Charles and Belle welcomed their new neighbors in a more sedate way. They nickered a Hello and went about their business.
Time to get feeding. We get a good view of the house from the dirt road in front.

Stoney, Leeso and Bonita have become dining partners.
Skittles is so glad to be back with her herd. She's not close with any particular horse, but she does not like to be separated from them.

Say! That might be a good title for a book-The View From the Tractor. Maybe some day when I have time I'll write it. Speaking of writing did you know our very own Jenny donkey is an author?
Yep. Jenny writes for a magazine called Growing Up Chico. The magazine comes out quarterly and has all sorts of good things in it. Jenny shares about life on the sanctuary.
While I was driving along and feeding, the horses would stop eating, perk up their ears and back away from the fence. They are not afraid of the tractor so I knew something had them spooked. When I looked behind me here came Love with a pizza box.

Now Love is a good mouser, but pizza box getting is something new. She was mighty proud of that box and carried the whole time we were out.
